Trump Administration Moves To Cut $100 Million In Federal Contracts For Harvard

The Trump administration is asking federal agencies to cancel contracts with Harvard University worth about $100 million. The move intensifies the president’s clash with the nation’s oldest and wealthiest university. The government already has canceled more than $2.6 billion in federal research grants for the Ivy League school, which has pushed back on the administration’s demands for changes to several of its policies. A letter sent Tuesday from the General Services Administration directed agencies to review contracts with the university and seek alternate vendors. President Donald Trump has railed against Harvard, calling it a hotbed of liberalism and antisemitism. The school filed a lawsuit over the administration’s calls for changes to the university.

President Trump May Have To End All Aid To Ukraine If Putin Keeps Avoiding Peace

Trump Says Russia's Putin 'Has Gone Absolutely Crazy!'

President Donald Trump made it clear he is losing patience with Vladimir Putin, leveling some of his sharpest criticism at the Russian leader as Moscow pounded Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities with drones and missiles for a third straight night. “I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY!” Trump wrote in a social media post on Sunday night. Trump said Putin is “needlessly killing a lot of people,” pointing out that “missiles and drones are being shot into Cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever.” The attack was the largest aerial assault since Russia’s full-scale invasion of the country in February 2022, according to Ukrainian officials. At least 12 people were killed and dozens injured. The U.S. president warned that if Putin wants to conquer all of Ukraine, it will “lead to the downfall of Russia!” But Trump expressed frustration with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as well, saying that he is “doing his Country no favors by talking the way he does.” “Everything out of his mouth causes problems, I don’t like it, and it better stop,” Trump wrote on social media. The president has increasingly voiced irritation at Putin and the inability to resolve the now three-year-old war, which Trump promised he would promptly end as he campaigned to return to the White House. He had long boasted of his friendly relationship with Putin and repeatedly stressed that Russia is more willing than Ukraine to reach a peace deal. But last month, Trump urged Putin to “STOP!” assaulting Ukraine after Russia launched another deadly barrage of attacks on Kyiv, and he has repeatedly expressed his frustration that the war in Ukraine is continuing. “I’m not happy with what Putin’s doing. He’s killing a lot of people. And I don’t know what the hell happened to Putin,” Trump told reporters earlier Sunday as he departed northern New Jersey, where he spent most of the weekend. “I’ve known him a long time, always gotten along with him, but he’s sending rockets into cities and killing people and I don’t like it at all. ” A peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine remains elusive. Trump and Putin spoke on the phone this past week, and Trump announced after the call that Russia and Ukraine will “immediately” begin ceasefire talks. That conversation occurred after Russian and Ukrainian officials met in Turkey for the first face-to-face talks since 2022. But on Thursday, the Kremlin said no direct talks were scheduled. The European Union has slapped new sanctions on Russia this month in response to Putin's refusal to agree to a ceasefire. But while Trump has threatened to step up sanctions and tariffs on Russia, he hasn’t acted so far.

Trump Upbeat About Possible Iran Nuclear Deal Soon

President Trump is hinting that an Iran nuclear deal could soon be announced. The president sounded upbeat following the latest round of talks between the United States and Iran. He pointed to “real, serious progress” in negotiations and said he might have something good to report soon. The two countries are discussing how to curb Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for lifting some economic sanctions.

Wall Street Rallies As It Whips Back Upward After Trump Pauses More Tariffs

Americans’ views of the economy improved in May after five straight months of declines sent consumer confidence to the lowest level since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, largely driven by anxiety over the impact of President Donald Trump’s tariffs. The Conference Board said Tuesday that its consumer confidence index rose 12.3 points in May to 98, up from April’s 85.7, its lowest reading since May 2020. A measure of Americans’ short-term expectations for their income, business conditions and the job market jumped 17.4 points to 72.8, but remained below 80, which can signal a recession ahead. Wall Street is rallying after President Donald Trump delayed a 50% tariff on goods coming from the European Union. Nvidia was one of the strongest forces pushing the US stock market higher. Treasury yields eased in the bond market.

Police Investigating MDW Shootings, Boat Explosions

Authorities are investigating several memorial day weekend tragedies. In Philadelphia, two people were killed and nine others, including three teenagers, were injured in a shooting at a park. In a briefing today, police report that a man and a woman died in the Monday night shooting in Fairmount Park. Those injured in the Memorial Day shooting were listed in stable condition. Police identified those killed as 23-year-old Amya Devlin and 21-year-old Mikhail Bowers. The wounded include a 15-year-old boy and two girls, ages 16 and 17. The other injured people, four women and two men, range in age from 18 to 28. ---------- In Ohio, authorities say a sheriff's deputy responding to a domestic violence call at a home was fatally shot by a suspect who was wounded. The Morrow County Sheriff's Office said the shooting occurred Monday night in the town of Marengo. At a news conference on today, the deputy was identified as 31-year-old Daniel Sherrer. -------------- Officials commented today on a fiery boat explosion near Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Memorial Day that sent 11 people to the hospital, many suffering from burns. The 39-foot boat had 15 people on board when the explosion happened around 6 p.m. Monday. The boat was traveling along the intracoastal waterway when the explosion occurred. Two of the victims are children. ------- A fight on board a boat where 120 people were partying over the holiday weekend led to a shooting where 11 people were injured along the South Carolina coast. The shooting happened on the dock in Little River, SC along the intracoastal waterway as people were getting off the boat. Authorities say 10 people were shot and one person was hurt when a speaker fell on their head. About 3 miles down the intracoastal waterway, a North Myrtle Beach police officer accidentally shot himself in the leg as he tried to get a boat into the water to respond to the shooting scene. All incidents listed are under investigation.

Trump Delays 50% Tariff On European Union Until July

President Donald Trump says the U.S. will delay implementation of a 50% tariff on goods from the European Union from June 1 until July 9 to buy time for negotiations with the bloc. That agreement came after a call Sunday with Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission. Trump says she told him she “wants to get down to serious negotiations." Trump told reporters later Sunday that he had told “anybody that would listen, they have to do that.” He said Von der Leyen vowed to “rapidly get together and see if we can work something out.”
